It’s #TalkingTuesday. How many people have you engaged in conversation today? Today is that one day per week you deliberately engage people often and for extended periods of time in hopes of gaining new insights, new clients, new customers and even new ideas. Hopefully you’re stepping out of that comfort zone and approaching people often. Just in case you’re having a hard time, here are 5 top talking topics to help you along.
The first and most obvious talking topic that’s a no brainer is your job. Engage everyone at work by starting the conversation about your job. Talk about a project or even an upcoming corporate event. Just get in the habit of starting the conversation.
The next talking topic to start a conversation is talking about shared interests. Maybe you enjoy reading so bring up a new book that you’re enjoying. Maybe you enjoy skiing and you have an outing planned. It could be just about anything and as soon as you find something that peaks their interest you’ll know because they will begin to rapidly engage back. So make it enjoyable and find something fun to talk about.
A third talking topic that you could engage people in could be about great hangout spots. Is there a bar you enjoy that has pool tables or darts? Talk about that. Are you someone who enjoys jogging? Maybe there are parks with great trails. Pick a hot spot and just start talking.
A forth and very popular talking topic is sports or a specific sports team. People love engaging in sports talk so hone up on some sporty statistics and facts and begin a conversation.
Finally and a perfect fifth talking topic is mutual friends. What a great conversation starter to have a mutual friend in common. Start talking about what you like about the person or even what annoys you about them. As long as you’re talking.
So the point is to talk. Take this one day of each week to get out there and start flapping your lips. Engaging people will give you insights for your business, it will help you meet new potential clients and customers and it will help you learn to communicate more effectively.
Do yourself a favor and go to the library and rent the book How To Win Friends and Influence People. It’s a great read and I’m positive you’ll get extra perspectives from it. If you would rather get it at Amazon it’s a cheap purchase and here is the link>> https://amzn.to/2OCEe6B
