Throw Out your preconceived notions and delegate

On this #TrashItThursday, we are not going to talk about throwing out some sort of article instead, we will discuss throwing out three preconceived notions about delegation that will either make or break your business. If you want to be successful in business, it is imperative that you learn how to delegate effectively. It isn’t about passing the buck rather, it is about spending your time efficiently while allowing others to complete smaller projects on your behalf. Delegating is not about you losing control, on the contrary, you gain more control when tasks are being performed simultaneously and methodically while you tend to the bigger picture.

First, you must throw out your preconceived notion that your employee or your assistant or whomever it is that helps you should know how you want things done. This notion will waste so much time and effort and should really be called a guessing game for your helpers. When you delegate a task, in order for it to be effective, you must clearly articulate what you want done, how you want it done as well as when you expect it to be done. If you make it clear about the outcome you expect then you will be assured little delays, small tweaks and possibly no redos which will save you and your company lots of time and money.

The second preconceived notion that you must throw out is the attitude that you know everything. Learn to know your own boundaries and limitations. When you do this, it will make it easier for you to find people with specific skills and knowledge that will benefit and more importantly, compliment you and your business. You may know what you want and you may know how to do things but sometimes you need to add specific skills so as not to half ass your project by doing everything yourself.

The third preconceived notion to throw out is your adamant demand for people to follow your process and your procedures. The most important thing is to get results not to follow a process that could and will hinder your business progression. Again, I’m not saying that you have to give up control rather, allowing people to sway a bit while utilizing their skills can be very motivating and empowering which in turn can result in a more cohesive and profitable outcome.

So on this Trash It Thursday, trash those preconceived notions and allow yourself to grow as a person as well as allowing your business to grow and prosper.

There’s a great book, quick read too if you are interested. It’s called, If You Want It Done Right, You Don’t Have To Do It Yourself by Quill Driver Books. Check it out at the library or you can get a copy from amazon here >> https://amzn.to/2ll0llx

To what degree

According to Serious Startups, 95% of entrepreneurs have a bachelors degree or higher. On this #WisdomWednesday, I need you to take one fact away with you, if you learn something, anything, on a continuous basis, you will succeed and you will grow, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially.

You don’t have to enroll in college to learn and grow. One of the easiest ways to learn and to grow is to read. This is where most of you start huffing and puffing and making excuses about how busy you are and how you don’t have time to read but I can guarantee that once you stop yourself from learning, you will stop your progression through life. You don’t have to sit down and read a 1000 page book, but you need to keep learning.

Here are some quick tips. First, before opening Facebook or instagram, open google and type in a phrase. For example, if you are launching or building your bakery business, type in “What is trending in baking” or type something similar. Click an article that interest you and read it. Maybe read two or three articles but make sure you read them. Google puts the world at your fingertips and all you need to do is to use it. As simple as that, you will learn something new that you can utilize or you will cement information that you already knew. A second tip if googling is not your thing is to pick up a magazine. Find a fact based article rather than one geared solely toward entertainment and read that. Last but at no means least, read a book. Even if it’s one book per month, read one that has significance. I’m not saying you can’t read for entertainment, what I am saying is to first read something that will broaden your mind then, read for entertainment.

There is an old adage that I love to use that says in small part, the more you learn, the more you earn. That my friends is wisdom.

If you need a head start, I know a great book that everyone should read. It’s paperback, it’s cheap and it’s filled with amazing insight. Don’t worry, it’s not a textbook or a compilation of business statistics, it’s the story of Sam Walton, the man who started Walmart. Including this day, it is in my opinion a book everyone should read. He tells the story of his life and fills it with awe moments of how to succeed if you are determined to succeed. It is a quick and simple must read. Borrow it from a friend, rent it at the library or buy it at Amazon for a few dollars but please, make this your first read. Here is a link link to the book if you want to see what it looks like or if you want to buy it >> https://amzn.to/2n4dAaJ

Spaghetti at the wall

The title of this post might sound weird but it is a perfect visual that will hopefully get my point across. If you’re not familiar with this saying, it started many years ago when one would throw spaghetti against the wall and if it stuck, it was done. Why someone would throw food against a wall always baffled me because all it did was add one more thing that had to be cleaned but I digress. The point is, if you put yourself out there enough, you’ll make contacts that have similarities to you and your business which will help you grow your business.

It’s Talking Tuesday so make it a point to get out and try and start up a conversation with whomever is in your path. I say talk to everyone because, you are not only looking to make possible business contacts, you are also looking for potential clients and or customers. If you don’t come home at the end of the day slightly hoarse, you didn’t talk enough. It’s very important not to make excuses why you can’t network. That’s why I’ve implemented this easy task, once per week, to just make Talking Tuesday part of your every week regimen. Continuously doing something helps to form a habit and that habit will become second nature to you. Set any inhibitions aside and just start talking to people. The conversation doesn’t have to be about business, it could be about the weather and if the flow continues, it will gradually and methodically flow toward your goals. So start, one word at a time, a simple hello.

Finally, please don’t get discouraged that you had ten conversations in one day that led nowhere. Like with anything else in life, it takes more than one introduction to anything and it takes many people before you get one hit. Imagine starting a business and every single person you met bought one item from you. That is just not how life works. Shopping malls get thousands of visitors per day and for all those visitors, stores hope to make a handful of sales. Another example is meeting a person and deciding that is who you will marry. Can it happen? Sure, why not? Does it happen? Not likely. It takes courting, lots of courting. The same is true with building a business and growing that business. It takes lots of presentations before you grab someone so don’t get discouraged. Always keep in the back of your mind that a “NO” just means “Next Opportunity”.

3 Quick steps to success

Welcome to another#MammothMonday. Today is the day to go big and plow through as many obstacles as possible. Today is the day you hold your head up high and don’t take no for an answer. Today I will give you 3 quick steps to success and I hope you generate as much momentum toward your dreams as possible.

The first and most important step is to pick your niche. Pick what it is you love to do for that is what will drive you toward financial freedom and a lifestyle you dream of. Too many people spend too much time jumping from idea to idea, never spending enough time on one thing and therefore, nothing has focus which in turn does not allow you to have any growth. Make the decision. Stop telling yourself that you have to think about it and mull it over and just choose. What is it that makes you happy? Only you can answer that question. So, once and for all, decide what it is you love doing and low and behold, you will have your niche.

Second, once you choose a niche, from that day forward you MUST treat this as a business. If you don’t treat what you are doing as a bonafide business then you will not grow or prosper and nobody will take you serious enough to pay you for your product or for your service. Take all steps necessary to be professional and make sure you are running your niche as the business that you intend to grow.

Third, be consistent. I can’t stress to you enough the importance of being consistent. If Monday is a day you cold call clients then make sure you do this every Monday. If Tuesday is the day you stuff envelopes for mailers then make sure you do that every Tuesday. Consistency will train your mind and make those tasks second nature. It will take stress off your plate because you will instinctively be doing that particular task. Also, and I can’t stress this enough, consistency will allow your potential clients and customers to feel comfortable with you. They will know what to expect and therefore trust you. This habit alone will help you to grow your business and more importantly maintain the clientele you worked so hard to get in the first place.

So, 3 quicks steps to success are picking a niche you love, treating that niche as a business and being consistent. As always I wish you continued success and welcome questions and comments.

Finally, there is a great book on Amazon called Niche Down in case you want that little extra bam for your business building. Here is the link if you’re interested>> https://amzn.to/2kS3RUu

Fund me friday

Aww, you’ve reached Friday, the end of the work week, payday. Yay right? If you are amongst the majority of people who look forward to the end of the work week then I can accurately guess that you are in the wrong job (a topic for another time) and worst yet, you probably don’t have a large enough savings account or at the bare minimum, you don’t even have a six month emergency fund. For this reason, in hopes of helping you reach your financial goals without any harsh or drastic money issues, I am implementing #FundMeFriday. I can’t even begin to tell you how crucial it is to have an emergency fund and better yet, an actual savings account. I’m probably not the only one who has told you how important it is to save money and I know this will not be the last time you hear about this. The difference now is that I am hoping that this first little step that I’m going to share with you will be that final push you need to help get you started. So here it is. The simple yet straightforward easiest way to start is with the 10% rule. Did you make $500 this week? Start getting results and put $50 in a savings account. It’s that simple. An even better savings is to send the $50 to your IRA. Do you have an IRA? If not, go to your bank the next free chance you get and open one up. It will be an amazing accomplishment you can do for yourself. Regardless of whether you choose a simple savings account or you choose to fund an IRA, just do yourself a favor and send 10% of whatever you make to that account and you will be in shock at how quickly your money will begin to grow but, you have to start. Fund Me Friday is about learning to pay yourself first so that you can take those first steps toward financial freedom. Even if someone gave you $50 for your birthday, always stay in financial freedom mode by depositing that $10 into your savings. Having this little cushion can be the difference of surviving a life’s mess or losing everything. We have to learn to pay ourselves first before we spend any money on anything. Once you start saving 10% of any money that comes through your hands, savings will become second nature for you. Please do yourself a favor and start implementing Fund Me Friday as a regular part of your life.

Trash it Thursday

This is day four of my new weekly hashtags so if you missed any, be sure to go back and scan through my blog for the first set. #TrashItThursday is exactly what you might think it is, get rid of stuff. Declutter your living space. Declutter your working space. Declutter your life. And, declutter your mind. If you want to succeed in life as well as live a healthy life, you have to take out the trash, literally and figuratively. Start with your living space. The more stuff that it lying around, the more you will subconsciously think of it. It is constantly in your face and whether you realize it or not, it’s tormenting you mentally. Get boxes or bins and put things away. If you hold the item in your hands and it holds no meaning for you, trash it. Next, tackle your work space. How messy is your work space? Clear that desk. It’s hard to work with thousands of papers and magazines everywhere. Even I have a hard time with this one but I make it a point to go through my two main piles of paper at least once a week and I trash whatever I don’t need. I get a real feeling of accomplishment when the pile goes down and I have completed something. I also just recently got a larger trash can for my office so when I’m in trash it mode I can now trash much more than I usually do. It almost sounds silly but it works. Next, declutter your life. What do I mean by this? Stop taking on more than you can handle. How do you do this? Start saying no. I don’t care if there are a thousand people in your life, you are still one person who is building your life and building your dreams so if it has nothing to do with you and there is too much on your plate, learn to say no. Learn to delegate chores. Let someone else do things that tie you down. Think of you and stop trying to be everything to everyone. Most important in decluttering your life is to get rid of toxic people who are destroying your happiness and draining all your energy. These people are like leaches and will take from you until they destroy all that’s left of you. There is no way at all to function in your life, to grow your business or to make your dreams come true until you trash this toxicity from your life. You know who these people are so just do it. Finally, declutter your mind. We and we alone torment and torture our minds. We have to learn to let it go. When you’re in one of those moments where you just can’t think straight because you have a thousand things racing through your mind, stop. Consciously stop yourself, close your eyes, take deep and slow breaths and just clear your mind. Then, trash unnecessary thoughts. Stop worrying about things you can’t change. If you can’t change it, trash it and move on with your life. Leave your mind with just the important things that you can work on and more importantly the things you want to work on. Trash It Thursday is a great way to start making incredible changes in your life. Start implementing it today.

Wisdom wednesday

Today I continue the introduction to our new set of hashtags. Our hashtag for Wednesday’s is #WisdomWednesday. Wisdom, in my opinion, is an important part of first being a trustworthy human and secondly, for succeeding in business. Wisdom is in small part, the ability to think and act using whatever ability you possess to know what is right. Most people whether brilliant or simple minded, almost always know what is right. It is our choices to choose the other path and ignore truth because the other path is either easier, less scary or more fun. Wisdom and practicing choosing what is right may at times be daunting but it is what will inevitably rocket you toward your aspirations. Choosing what is right even though it may not be popular will build character and trust thus bringing more people toward you rather than having people think that you are shady and walk away from you. Your reputation will blossom and by extension, your business will too. Keep in mind too that strong people choose what is right while the weak choose the other path. Wisdom will bring you a winning life so choose wisely. On a side note, do not confuse wisdom with knowledge. In short, wisdom is knowing what is right and or true while knowledge is gaining information through experience. Although both are important, they are not synonymous with one another.

Talking Tuesday

The Main Hustle has it’s new hashtag for Tuesday’s. We are calling it Talking Tuesday. Why? Talking helps to form trust with others. It helps you to bounce ideas around and talk through those figurative walls we all hit. Talking can also help you to develop mindful goals which will keep you, your business and your life on track. Talking to people regularly will inevitably strengthen your relationship thus creating stronger bonds and contacts which will help your business grow and prosper. Let Tuesday be the day of the week where you stop and engage people in conversation. Even if you don’t have any business ideas to talk about, pick a current event and just start the conversation. Talking will strengthen and increase your speaking skills which are crucial if you want to get your point across in an understandable and eloquent way so use Tuesday’s as your speech development day.
