Spaghetti at the wall

The title of this post might sound weird but it is a perfect visual that will hopefully get my point across. If you’re not familiar with this saying, it started many years ago when one would throw spaghetti against the wall and if it stuck, it was done. Why someone would throw food against a wall always baffled me because all it did was add one more thing that had to be cleaned but I digress. The point is, if you put yourself out there enough, you’ll make contacts that have similarities to you and your business which will help you grow your business.

It’s Talking Tuesday so make it a point to get out and try and start up a conversation with whomever is in your path. I say talk to everyone because, you are not only looking to make possible business contacts, you are also looking for potential clients and or customers. If you don’t come home at the end of the day slightly hoarse, you didn’t talk enough. It’s very important not to make excuses why you can’t network. That’s why I’ve implemented this easy task, once per week, to just make Talking Tuesday part of your every week regimen. Continuously doing something helps to form a habit and that habit will become second nature to you. Set any inhibitions aside and just start talking to people. The conversation doesn’t have to be about business, it could be about the weather and if the flow continues, it will gradually and methodically flow toward your goals. So start, one word at a time, a simple hello.

Finally, please don’t get discouraged that you had ten conversations in one day that led nowhere. Like with anything else in life, it takes more than one introduction to anything and it takes many people before you get one hit. Imagine starting a business and every single person you met bought one item from you. That is just not how life works. Shopping malls get thousands of visitors per day and for all those visitors, stores hope to make a handful of sales. Another example is meeting a person and deciding that is who you will marry. Can it happen? Sure, why not? Does it happen? Not likely. It takes courting, lots of courting. The same is true with building a business and growing that business. It takes lots of presentations before you grab someone so don’t get discouraged. Always keep in the back of your mind that a “NO” just means “Next Opportunity”.
